Born in Alghero (Sassari), after his degree in “Politics and Economy” at the University of Sassari,
he got the degree with mention in singing at “Conservatorio di Musica” of Verona and the First
Class Honours in “Musical Discipline” at “Conservatorio di Musica” of Rovigo.
He began his career in 1999 under the guide of Angelo Capobianco, with whom he’s still
specializing. After that he won many competitions dedicated to opera singers, among them we find
the “Basiola” of Cremona, the “Tagliavini” of Deutschlandsberg (Austria), the “Belli” of Spoleto,
the “Placido Domingo Operalia” of Hamburg and “Rosetum” of Milan. He sang a very large
repertoire included the principal rules from Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Massenet,
Bizet, Bellini, Gounoud. He sang under the direction of many important conductors such as Yuri
Ahronovich, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Michel Plasson, Anton Guadagno, Maurizio Arena,
Pinchas Steimberg, Donato Renzetti, and directors as Franco Zeffirelli, Maurizio Scaparro, Hugo de
Ana, Christopher Loy, Mario Martone, Giuseppe Patroni Griffi, Luca Ronconi, Nicolas Joel, J.
Grinda, G. Del Monaco.
In 2002, under the guide of Riccardo Chailly, Domenico Balzani recorded for “Decca” the role of
Ping in the world premiere of “Turandot” with the ending by Luciano Berio. With “Bongiovanni”
he even recorded for the first time ever Leoncavallo’s Zazà and he published with “Phaedra” a CD
of chamber arias played with accordeon and piano. In 2010 he recorded for the Warner Bros Studios
and Theatre V.E. Messina a video animation on “Heure Espagnole” by Ravel playing the role of
Ramiro. In 2011 he published with Audax Editor “Lucia di Lammermoor, appunti di studio e di
interpretazione”. He sang in many important theatres as Deutches Opera of Berlin ,Oper
Frankfurt ,Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Verdi in Cagliari,
Teatro Regio in Torino, Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Opera
National in Istambul, Opera National in Lima, Concertgebown in Amsterdam, Teatro Bellini
in Catania, Opera di Montpellier, Opera in Toulouse, Opèra Nacional du Rhin in Strasburgo,
Opera di Basilea, Opera di Roma-Terme di Caracalla, Tokio New National Theatre, Avenches
Opera Festival, Israeli National Opera in Tel-Aviv, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Teatro San
Carlo in Napoli, Opera Nazionale in Budapest, Opera di Malta, Opera di Palm Beach (USA),
Opera National in Toronto, National Opera in Atene, Teatro Filarmonico Arena Verona,
Opera Royal of Wallonie in Liege, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova.
In this season he sang the role of Rossini’s Barber in the role of Figaro at the Deutsches Oper Berlin
and Teatro Regio in Torino, Gianni Schicchi and Figaro in “Nozze di Figaro“, Pizzarro in “Fidelio”
of Beethoven at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, Malatesta in “Don Pasquale” at the Opera of
Budapest, Sharpless in “Butterfly” at the Regio in Torino, Don Alvaro in “Viaggio a Reims” at
Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Marcello in “Boheme” at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Germont in
“Traviata” of G. Verdi at the Teatro Carlo Felice of Genova and Opera National of Kiev (Ukrain).
